Join CHC members, Prince Edward County museum cooks, and County chefs in the open-hearth kitchen of Macaulay House, and at other PEC historic sites, to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the Loyalists in Prince Edward County and the long tradition of local harvests and seasonal cooking in County kitchens.
The day starts with a demonstration of baking cakes in hoops, 18th-century style (CHC member Mya Sangster prepares a Seed Cake from Elizabeth Cleland's Scottish recipe book), followed by a fireside 19th-century lunch, a country cake contest, and a ceremonial cutting of the Seed Cake.
There will be opportunities throughout the day for the exchange of period recipes as well as the sale of preserves, pickles and relishes by the Friends of Macaulay Heritage Park.
